Dr. Sylvia Earle
I first met Dr. Sylvia Earle in July of 2008 when she spoke at the
Hawaii Convention Center regarding the current state of our marine
environment. It was a real honor to have the opportunity to see her
speak again at the launch of Google Earth's OCEAN on February 2nd,
2009. For several decades Dr. Earle has inspired and educated
people around the world about the importance of marine environmental
awareness and protection.
After the press release, John Racanelli, Executive Advisor for the
Deep Search Foundation, invited the Ocean Partners to the historic
Dolphin Club on San Francisco's waterfront to celebrate the special
occasion. I was excited to have the opportunity to share my latest
DVD production, Sea of Jazz, with Dr. Earle and Ms. Glover.
One of the highlights of my trip was when Dr. Earle gave each of the
Ocean Partners an autographed copy of OCEAN, An Illustrated Atlas she
and Linda K. Glover co-authored for National Geographic. The Atlas
was produced with Grant Support from NASA and NOAA and features state-
of-the-art sea-floor maps.
Sylvia's passion for the ocean illuminates the room when she talks
about the sea and she'll forever be a true inspiration to people
around the globe as one of the greatest ocean explorers of all time.
