"When I say that my business is 'going under,'" says filmmaker Paul
Cater Deaton, "I say it with a big smile on my face!"
From his beginnings as a Movie Grip, Paul has become an award-
winning Writer, Producer, Director and Cinematographer. His
underwater production skills were honed in oceans and seas all over
the world. His favorite work is producing and shooting
documentaries relative to SCUBA diving and adventure travel. He is
based in the Virgin Islands.
Shooting on six continents over a career spanning three decades,
Deaton has earned numerous industry awards. His articles have been
published worldwide, and his documentary work has been licensed by
networks in Europe and Asia. His interpretation of 'Sol del Caribe'
by Teye and Viva El Flamenco was named 'Best Music Video' at the
2004 Austin Music Awards at South by Southwest. His highly-
acclaimed 'Brother' music video for rap artist FP was the first
music video originating in the USVI to be aired on an MTV network.
It earned a Gold Addy, and the Donald Plantz Award for Best of Show
Video Production at the 2007 Virgin Islands Addy Awards.
Paul engages in productions ranging from commercials, music videos
and documentaries to TV programs and full-length motion pictures.
His work has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, BBC, MTV, CMT, HBO,
VH1, ESPN, Fox, Nickelodeon, Showtime, TV2 Caribbean, Austin Music
Network, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Tri-Star, Veronica
Broadcasting (The Netherlands), ARD German Television, Planete TV

Central, E! Entertainment TV, Bravo, Ocean in Google Earth, and at

Deaton was one of the original filmmakers approached to produce
content for Ocean in Google Earth, which launched in February,
2009. Paul produced pieces for the Red Sea, Mediterranean, Western
Indian Ocean, Great Barrier Reef, and Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean Sea
focus areas. His perspectives bring unique insights to the project,
and he has been asked to continue providing content for future
versions.
It was during the Google initiative that he was introduced to Ray
Hollowell, and thoughts of an alliance between these two producers
was an immediate result.
"I am excited at the prospect of teaming up with Ray Hollowell and
Plan Sea Entertainment," Paul said in a recent interview.
"Our philosophies are similar, and we are both committed to doing
what we can to protect the ocean," Deaton continued. "Television
and the internet are ideal platforms for getting a message of
conservation across in an entertaining way. Working together, Plan
Sea Entertainment, The Deaton Studio and others like us can help
make a difference in the way humans treat the sea. By incorporating
fun, educational programming geared toward young people, we can
pave the way for future stewardship of the marine resource."
